Hypothyroidism a thyroid disorder.

An unexplained change in weight is one of the most common signs of a thyroid disorder. Weight gain may signal low levels of thyroid hormones, a condition called hypothyroidism. In contrast, if the thyroid produces more hormones than the body needs, you may lose weight unexpectedly. This is known as hyperthyroidism. Thyroid hormone is responsible for your overall metabolism

Women are as much as 10 times as likely as men to have a thyroid problem. Remember to get your thyroid tested.

I myself is suffering from Hypothyroidism and I get my TSH tested every three months. It’s under control with proper medication and exercise. So if you suspect a thyroid problem, ask your doctor to do a blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) as well as for thyroid antibodies.

Hypothyroidism and symptoms:

  • Feeling tired and having no energy are issues associated with lots of conditions, but they’re strongly linked with hypothyroidism. If you’re still tired in the morning or all day after a full night’s sleep, that’s a clue that your thyroid may be underactive.
  • Feeling unusually depressedor sad can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism.
  • Skin that’s dry and itchy can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. The change in skin texture and appearanceis probably due to slowed, which can reduce sweating. Skin without enough moisture can quickly become dry and flaky, nails can become brittle and may develop ridges.
  • Unexplained weight gain

How do you manage your weight?

  • Proper medication. Get your TSH tested every after three months.
  • Start with some body activity like walking and cross training.
  • Follow a routine of eating healthy and measured.
  • Relax and meditation. This will calm you down and motivate to get back to shape.
  • Avoid vegetables from the cruciferous family are known goitrogens. They include brussels, sprouts, broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, cabbage, kale and more.

Hypothyroidism is not a disease but a hormonal disorder which can be kept under control if treated on right time.

Say NO to sugar but Why?

Say no to sugar as added sugar contains NO essential nutrients and is bad for your health.

Sugar and what are the side effects of it!

  • Obesity and weight gain – Eating excessive amounts of sugar spikes insulin levels and no matter how much you exercise, when insulin is chronically elevated, most of that energy gets deposited and stored in the fat cells.
  • Diabetes – Although eating sugar doesn’t cause diabetes, it can accelerate complications and progress the disease.
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) – When too much sugar is consumed day after day, it gets stored as fat in the liver, causing NAFLD. This can lead to serious problems like liver inflammation, which may progress to scarring and irreversible damage.
  • Heart Disease – Research has shown that drinking sugar-sweetened beverages can raise blood pressure. Also, a high-sugar diet may stimulate the liver to release more toxic fats into the bloodstream. Both factors are known to boost heart disease risk.
  • Aging – Scientists have noted connections between sugar consumption and cell aging, along with skin wrinkling.

Say NO to sugar and help yourself to get a better and fit lifestyle!

Surya namaskar / Sun Salutation

Surya Namaskar is one of the most wonderful and simple techniques of losing weight. It makes the body flexible, fit, and strong. Helps in boosting metabolism and in building lean muscles.

I have lost around 26 kgs of my weight and I am very regular with surya namaskar. I always do this early morning but you can do this anytime. I started with the count of five and now I do fifty surya namaskar daily or six days a week. When you start this initially you will find it a little difficult but slowly it will bend or you will get used to of doing this. Believe me I don’t see any exercise/asana so complete than this.

suryanamaskar

What Is Surya Namaskar?

Surya Namaskar is also known as Sun Salutation in English. It is a common sequence of 12 body postures. Each of these asanas is performed by stretching first, the right side of the body, followed by the left side. These asanas have good impact on the throat, chest, heart, stomach, intestine and legs. Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskar is a complete body workout in itself.

Surya Namaskar to Lose Weight?

  • There are twelve poses of surya namaskar in total and you need to perform them with precision. Perform them in order and in right way with proper stretches.
  • You should perform the steps at a slow and steady pace. You can increase the pace but make sure to follow the steps. In fact a good pace will shed more weight and  once you have built enough strength, increase the number of rounds you do.

Note: Studies have shown that one minute of Sun Salutation helps you burn 3.79 calories. Through research it has been shown that one full round of Surya Namaskar takes approximately 3 minutes and 40 seconds to complete. Therefore the calories burnt in 1 surya namaskar can be up to 13.91 calories. This result can, however, vary from person to person, depending on his respective body weight and other attributes.

Stress and weight gain

Stress and weight gain, or lack of weight loss go hand in hand. You will not realize and you will gain many kgs. Stress has a very bad effect on our body and mind which we get to understand mostly very late.

Being under constant stress has the following consequences:

  • Like sleep deprivation, too much stress increases the production of cortisol. Not only does this increase appetite, it can also cause extra fat storage around the abs.
  • Cravings for foods that are high in sugar and fat, comfort foods to make us feel better. We end up consuming more calories than required.
  • Skipping workouts because you just feel too stressed out to exercise.
  • Not taking care of self. We end up ignoring our own body, mind and relationship.

Dealing with stress

  • Work on staying calm – We often try to fix the problem with food or alcohol. Which might not be the solution but instead of this if we stay calm and focus on finding the right way or talk to the right person we may find a solution. Anxiety is not going to solve the problem.
  • Meditation – Believe it or not but meditation is a very powerful medicine and it will surely cure the stress and tension.
  • Exercise – You may feel like exercise is the last thing you want to do, but it can give you instant stress relief. Even just a walk outside can reduce stress and tension.
  • Breathe – Calming down doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Just closing your eyes and taking a deep breath will instantly calm you.
  • Yoga – Yoga is a great medicine for stress and very helpful in the weight loss. I have lost around 26 kgs post pregnancy weight just by performing yoga and mat exercises at home.
  • Running – Yes, running is very helpful in controlling the stress and your weight too.
